Project Details

Martin Place Station- Sydney Metro

Products Used

Key Outcomes

  • Protection for premium surfaces in the new Martin Place Station
  • Floor protection that withstands heavy equipment
  • Easy to lay floor protection

Background

Situated in the centre of Sydney’s central business district, the Martin Place Metro train station fit out is reaching the final stages. This all-new station is a key component in the $21.6 billion Metro City and Southwest line project.

Challenge

Nash Group needed an effective and efficient solution to protect the new granite floors throughout the station while fit out works were being completed including the use of elevated work platforms and heavy boom lifts. Nash typically used 17mm plywood for floor protection when it needed to support heavy equipment.

Solution

Nash Group chose to go with Protecta Board Xtra because of its industry-leading weight-to-compression strength ratio. Protecta Board Xtra being significantly lighter than 17mm plywood, can be laid more safely, in less time and uses less labour. Adding to the strength and weight benefits, the P4 slip rating enhancing safety and 100% recyclability, Protecta Board Xtra was the ideal solution. The soft protective under layer has enabled a pristine handover of the premium granite paved surfaces.

Final Result

The Protecta Board Xtra was removed after six months, safeguarding the extensive areas of granite
pavers without any damage or defects.
