Background
HD construction were awarded the project to fit out a vaccination hub with waiting areas, private cubicles for a Covid vaccination and testing hub which would initially prioritise Year 12 students. Two thousand HSC students required Covid vaccinations and testing to be undertaken in a one-week period before starting their HSC trials.
Located in Sydney Olympic Park the Qudos Bank Arena is a world leading music, sports, and entertainment venue. Due to the pandemic eliminating gatherings for such events the empty space was an ideal location for a mass vaccination hub while allowing for social distancing.
Challenge
HD Construction contacted Protecta Group on a Saturday morning, requiring modular walling and flooring to convert the part of the Qudos sports arena into a 70-cubicle vaccination and testing centre by the Monday morning. The system needed to be strong and stable with so many people moving through the centre as well as easy to clean and sanitise.
Protecta Screen and Vinyl flooring used to create testing booths and temporary flooring.
Solution
Due to our large stocks on hand in our Sydney warehouse and over 45 years of experience with temporary walling systems, Protecta Group was able to design and supply 1000 sqm of our HoardFast walling system and 800 sqm of vinyl flooring to create 70 cubicles in two days from start to finish.
HoardFast was the preferred solution to create over 70 freestanding cubicles as it could be installed rapidly due its modular design. The light but strong pre-finished PVC wall panels are easy to clean and sanitise which was essential for the vaccination centre.
Vinyl was the ideal solution for temporary flooring under the HoardFast system to protect the carpet due it the fast roll out and lay-flat technology, ensuring a safe and hygienic flooring.
Porta Screen free standing system used to create vaccination stations.Â
Following this install we worked further with HD Construction using the free-standing Portascreens to create additional vaccination stations to increase the site’s capacity. Creating 2500 square meters of petitioning and 150 vaccination station to help boost to vaccination rates.
HD Construction also installed Protecta-Edge Foam Protectors to handrails and Bubble Board to walls creating a walkway for the public to safely move through the scaffolding to the waiting area following their vaccination.

Final Result
Responsive customer service and having available stock and expertise on hand meant that HD Constructions were able to deliver the project on time. As a result, all NSW HSC students were able to be vaccinated in preparation for their trial examinations.
