Key Outcomes

  • Protecta Site Mat XTRA highlighted safe access areas
  • Protecta Board XTRA shielded epoxy flooring from construction traffic
  • FRP Walkway Grating created a slip-resistant walkway between site sheds

Background

Taylor is constructing a new data centre in Eastern Creek, NSW. This high-tech building, called Project Echidna, features a two-storey structure with ground-level security offices, first-floor offices, and two levels of data hall processing space.

The project will take two years to complete. While it was in the demolition and groundwork stage, Taylor asked Protecta for expert advice on how to keep key areas protected throughout the entire build.

Challenge

Because this project will run for at least two years, Taylor needed temporary protection solutions that would last the full project duration. The protection required at this stage of the project was focused on three key areas:

1. Pedestrian Walkways: The site needed a durable and clear pathway to show people
where they could walk.

2. Safe Passage Between Site Sheds: Workers needed a sturdy, non-slip floor to safely walk between site sheds on the second storey.

3. Protect Finished Flooring: Protect epoxy floors from potential damage by construction and foot traffic throughout the project.

Solution

Protecta Site Mat XTRA in green highlighted to workers and site visitors the safe access walkways in and around the site.

To make the gantry walkway safe, FRP Walkway Grating with the highest slip rating (P5) was installed in green highlighting the safe access walkways. Even if the surface got wet, workers could walk safely between the site sheds.

Protecta Board XTRA was used to selected to protect the epoxy flooring in what will become the data hall. With an industry leading impact protection rating and soft felt underlay, Protecta Board XTRA will ensure the epoxy floor is preserved in pristine condition even with daily machinery and foot traffic. Protecta Board XTRA's fire rating complied with the building’s fire safety requirements, making it the ideal solution to protect the epoxy floor.

From the outset, Taylor engaged a Project Protection Specialist from Protecta who recommended the most suitable protection solutions available and to check that everything was working well once it was installed.

Final Result

Protecta provided guidance and high-quality, fire rating compliant protection solutions from the beginning stages of construction of the data centre. These solutions will last for the entire two-year project, keeping key areas in pristine condition until construction is complete and handover. As the project progresses, a Project Protection Specialist will continue to support the changing protection requirements for the build.
